For nine years now, CSI Las Vegas was led by a brilliant entomologist named Gil Grissom, played by actor William Petersen. Through Grissom’s tenure as a leader, he faced many tragic situations for both himself and his team with instances such as: The Miniature Killer, Warwick’s death, Sara’s capture, Nick Stokes being buried alive and the dismemberment of his team. Now, Grissom says goodbye to his team and gives up his position as he leaves CSI.
Grissom fell for Sara whom he had started an intimate relationship with until she had her incident. This very incident shook Sara enough to get her out of CSI. She appeared again when Warwick was killed in the line of duty, Grissom’s top CSI, and then told him that she would love him forever but couldn’t be with him.
Grissom has been the brains and success for this incredible CSI unit, making it one of the best in the United States. His philosophy of letting the evidence tell the story, despite the emotions, is what made him a revered leader. There wasn’t one team member that did not admire their boss.
Throughout the years, his one-liner phrases commonly became known as, “Grissom-isms,” which usually ended the show. We all waited to hear these lines of insight and wit or sarcasm. What are we going to do now?
We all saw it coming as Grissom prepped his team to take over for him. We saw him struggle with his degenerative hearing loss and waited in worry when this would keep him from his job. Between this setback and Sara, who left this season officially, I believe it finally took out the great CSI leader.
You won’t want to miss Grissom’s final case on January 17th, 2009 when he will say goodbye forever. Catherine Willows will more than likely be taking over, I’m sure, as she was the daytime supervisor. Willows will probably rejoin the team that Eclsey broke apart and take over Grissom’s spot. She has huge shoes to fill as there will never be another Gil Grissom.
Actor William Petersen has forever changed “night time drama.” He made it fun and intriguing to the viewers to watch these crime scene dramas and was a role model we all wanted to be. His character will forever be revered as one of the best characters ever in this genre of television show.

i think the loss of his role not being on csi is going to effect the show a lot… i’m sure most poeple would agree when things change it makes you yourself change the way you look at things… there will never be another actor that can replace or play his role..
i really felt sad knowing the departure of Grissom from the csi team,.Csi las vegas will never b the same nomore,.of all the csi tv series,Las vegas is the best for me,.i just hope that they would put another twist to its drama and bring back Grissom..coz he is was the crux of CSI.
